1 4 Ja n 19 99 Stokes parameters for light scattering from a Faraday - active sphere
We present an exact calculation for the scattering of light from a single sphere made of Faraday-active material, to first order in the external magnetic field. We use a recent expression for the T-matrix of a Mie scatterer in a magnetic field to compute the Stokes parameters in single scattering that describe completely flux and polarization of the scattered light.
متن کاملIsotropic Radiators
Can the radiation pattern of an antenna be isotropic? A simple argument suggests that this is difficult. The intensity of radiation depends on the square of the electric (or magnetic) field. To have isotropic radiation, it would seem that the magnitude of the electric field would have to be uniform over any sphere in the far zone. However, the electromagnetic fields in the far zone of an antenn...
متن کاملScattering by a Nihility Sphere
The concept of nihility as an electromagnetic medium has emerged [1] from the rather extraordinary developments on negatively refracting materials during this decade [2, 3]. Whereas the relative permittivity and relative permeability of vacuum are ǫr = μr = 1, and those of anti– vacuum are ǫr = μr = −1, those of nihility are ǫr = μr = 0. The so–called perfect lens of Pendry [4] is made of anti–...
متن کاملScalar Multi-solitons on the Fuzzy Sphere
We study solitons in scalar theories with polynomial interactions on the fuzzy sphere. Such solitons are described by projection operators of rank k, and hence the moduli space for the solitons is the Grassmannian Gr(k, 2j+1). The gradient term of the action provides a non-trivial potential on Gr(k, 2j+1), thus reducing the moduli space. We construct configurations corresponding to wellseparate...
متن کاملOn the Scattering of Electromagnetic Waves by a Charged Sphere
Scattering of electromagnetic radiation by a charged homogeneous spherical particle/body is treated. Theoretical solution represents a generalization of the Mie’s scattering theory for electrically neutral sphere. It is shown that classical and quantum physics approaches may lead to different conclusions, as documented by numerical computations assuming various permeabilities, refractive indice...
